It was quite a major car crash which resulted in Meena Kumari being in the hospital for quite a lot of days. It was in this accident that her left hand got injured and her little finger got broken. Due to this, the shape of the finger changed and it became round. The conviction and strength of the characters she portrayed in many of her films earned her the title of "The Tragedy Queen of Indian Cinema'.
