Why does my caravan wobble

Length of the van and road-speed increase the problem. Drive below 80, and keep weight around the axles. PS For a reference to that study, look up caravanandmotorhomebooks. I have had severe swaying twice before finding out the problem was caused by the suspension. The caravan is dual axle and fitted with load sharing leaf springs what was happening was sometimes when the wheel hit a bump or hole one of the spring links would lock up and suddenly you were only on three wheels.

I fixed the problem by fitting rocker roller springs and shocks now no sway all all. I beleive that the caravan manufacturers are building 'off road' vans that are far too high above the road and thus raising the centre of gravity and subesquently causing sway.

I have towed vans and driven semi's, and roadtrains for more that 55 years. I cannot see the sense in manufacturing 'vans that have double or more of ground clearance than the tow vehicle. I think that once the registration authorities work this out, then there will be a lot vans that will be considered to be unroadworthy.

My advice: Buy vans only with a lower centre of gravity. You do not need that high clearance even in the most arduous off- road situations. I really appreciate your article. Thanks heaps for this info Would still like to learn more as heading solo across Oz in 6 weeks. My water tank is at the back of my 15ft van which I would presume would hold a ltrs. Brought my van 6mnths ago and didn't get a book of instructions to go with it Firstly , great input all round every one. Jeannie , I think you will find that that water tank you speak of is llitres not Sorry hit wrong button, liter tank not Id move it further forward closer to the axle and also try to always have it almost full, to stop the contents sloshing around.

A tank would be the equivalent of a small car in weight.!! By Chunkymunky Started 10 hours ago. By AlwynMike Started August 5. By anthony Started December 15, Share More sharing options Followers 1.

If not try rotating tires if problem continues alignment will need to be checked. My truck acts like the power steering pump is out. But when i drive the steering wheel shakes a lot.

Then it goes away mostly. If i turn a little while driving its shakes again then smooths out! Is that my pump or is it in my gears? Well, that depends on what model truck you have.

But, the belt could be slipping, or the shaft on the pump pulley has broken and will sometimes turn the internals of the pump, and other tiomes not.
